Some years ago I was on a (SCUBA) dive boat off the coast of Gloucester, MA USA and asked a fellow passenger, a Brit, how one should drink whisky. He replied “As one likes it I should think.”
The debate over whether or not one should add water, ice, or soda to whisky is age old and not likely to be won by moi.
However, in my opinion (a splash of) cool (not cold) clean water is acceptable, and even preferred under some circumstances but ice is an abomination. If you need to dilute or chill your whisky you need to find a milder whisky, or drink a properly chilled beer.
What say you?
